Razor: “We spent months talking about Megatron. We ended up with an Island, a pile of young linemen, a linebacker, a pass rusher, two receivers and a seventh-round quarterback lottery ticket. Fine. Now show me which of these kids can actually play.”
NINE PICKS. ONE NEW FOUNDATION.The 2007 Raiders draft is in the books, and Oakland came away with nine players across all seven rounds.
The class is young. The class is athletic. The class has multiple developmental bets.
And at the very top, the Raiders made the move everyone had been waiting for.
1.1 — CB DARRELLE REVIS, PITTSBURGH — 86 OVR5'11", 198 pounds | Age 22 | 99 SPD | 94 AGI | 99 ACC | 86 JMP | 89 INJThe Raiders did not draft Megatron.
They drafted
The Island.
Revis is the centerpiece of the class and the obvious headline. His athletic profile is ridiculous: 99 speed, 99 acceleration and 94 agility at 22 years old.
That gives Oakland a rookie corner with the physical tools to change how the entire secondary operates.
Danny: If he develops the way the Raiders hope, he can anchor the back end for years.
Razor: At 1.1, “anchor the back end” is the minimum. I want receivers asking permission to cross his side of the field.
3.12 — LE VICTOR ABIAMIRI, NOTRE DAME — 74 OVR6'4", 267 pounds | Age 21 | 79 SPD | 81 STR | 75 ACC | 93 INJAbiamiri is only 21 and arrives with a strong combination of size, speed and durability.
He is not a finished product, but this is exactly what a third-round developmental defensive lineman should look like: young, athletic and physically capable of growing into a bigger role.
Razor: Twenty-one years old. Good. Mold him before somebody else teaches him bad habits.
5.1 — LOLB ADAM HAYWARD, PORTLAND STATE — 72 OVR6'0", 235 pounds | Age 23 | 81 SPD | 80 ACC | 78 TAK | 96 INJHayward adds another young linebacker to a defense already trying to get faster and younger.
The 96 injury rating stands out, and the 78 tackle rating gives him a respectable foundation for a fifth-round pick.
Danny: That is the kind of player who can carve out a role on defense and special teams.
Razor: Then carve. Nobody gets a roster spot because his draft card looked nice.
6.1 — RT ADAM KOETS, OREGON STATE — 70 OVR6'5", 300 pounds | Age 23 | 90 STR | 82 PBK | 84 RBK | 92 INJKoets is the first of three offensive linemen Oakland grabbed late.
His 90 strength and balanced 82 pass block / 84 run block profile make him an intriguing developmental tackle.
Razor: Six-foot-five, 300 pounds, 90 strength. Good. Now teach him to move people against their will.
6.28 — WR ROY HALL, OHIO STATE — 65 OVR6'2", 229 pounds | Age 24 | 91 SPD | 89 ACC | 71 CTH | 83 CARHall is one of the more interesting pure athletic bets in the class.
At 6'2", 229 pounds with 91 speed and 89 acceleration, he brings size and movement skills. The overall rating is modest, but the physical package is not.
Danny: Big body, good speed, and enough athleticism to earn a look.
Razor: Fine. Catch the football and I will become emotionally available.
7.4 — LT MARSHAL YANDA, IOWA — 68 OVR6'3", 305 pounds | Age 23 | 83 STR | 82 PBK | 82 RBK | 91 TGHYanda gives Oakland another young offensive lineman with a balanced blocking profile.
He is not overpowering physically, but 82 in both pass and run blocking gives him a useful baseline for a seventh-round pick.
Razor: Seventh round? If he can block somebody on purpose, I am interested.
7.22 — RG DARNELL STAPLETON, RUTGERS — 68 OVR6'3", 305 pounds | Age 22 | 69 AWR | 83 RBK | 65 ACC | 99 TGHStapleton is one of the youngest players in the class and brings a notably higher awareness rating than most rookies taken this late.
The 83 run block and 99 toughness also fit the profile of a player who could become useful if he develops.
Danny: That is the kind of late-round pick that can quietly become valuable.
Razor: Quietly is fine. Just do not quietly get the quarterback killed.
7.27 — QB TYLER THIGPEN, CHARLESTON SOUTHERN — 66 OVR6'1", 216 pounds | Age 23 | 87 SPD | 86 ACC | 90 THP | 74 THA | 99 INJEvery draft should have one pick that makes you stare at the ratings and say, “Well... maybe.”
Thigpen is that pick.
He has 87 speed, 86 acceleration, 90 throw power and a perfect 99 injury rating. The awareness is raw at 40, and the accuracy is only 74, so this is absolutely a developmental quarterback.
But in the seventh round, you are allowed to buy lottery tickets.
Danny: Athletic, durable and still young enough to develop.
Razor: Seventh-round quarterbacks are either camp stories or legends people brag about for twenty years. There is usually very little middle ground.
7.28 — WR DAVID CLOWNEY, VIRGINIA TECH — 68 OVR6'1", 190 pounds | Age 22 | 83 SPD | 82 AGI | 83 ACC | 78 CTH | 78 KRClowney closes the class as another young receiver with multiple useful traits.
He does not have Hall’s top-end speed, but his 78 catch rating and 78 kick return rating give him more positional versatility from the start.
Razor: Seventh-round receiver with return ability? That is exactly where you take that swing.
WHAT THIS CLASS SAYSThis is not a draft built around aging stopgaps.
Revis is 22.
Abiamiri is 21.
Stapleton and Clowney are 22.
Hayward, Koets, Yanda and Thigpen are 23.
That matters.
Oakland did not just draft for September. It drafted players with room to grow through camp, progression and future seasons.
Three offensive linemen. Two receivers. One corner. One edge defender. One linebacker. One quarterback.
This is a class that attacks depth while still giving the franchise a true blue-chip player at the top.
RAZOR'S FINAL WORDWe thought this draft was going to be about Megatron.
Instead, it became about The Island.
Revis is the star.
But this class will not be judged on one player.
It will be judged on whether Abiamiri grows into a real defensive piece.
Whether Hayward finds a role.
Whether Koets, Yanda and Stapleton become blockers instead of names on a spreadsheet.
Whether Hall or Clowney gives the receiver room something unexpected.
And whether Tyler Thigpen becomes anything more than a seventh-round curiosity.
That is what draft classes are.
One headline.
Eight bets.
Razor: “Revis gives this draft legitimacy immediately. The rest of them give it upside. Now we find out which kids are football players and which ones are just numbers on a scouting sheet. Welcome to Oakland. Training camp starts now.”
FINAL VERDICT: THE ISLAND ARRIVES. EIGHT MORE YOUNG BETS FOLLOW. NOW DEVELOP THEM.
